Music’s Many Meanings

November 30, 2011 4:25pm

I was thinking about music today and how it is of the most diverse forms of expression on the planet. It’s existence transcends almost all cultures; old and new, eastern and western, religious and secular. From the Amazon rainforest to the Sydney Oprah House, music is enjoyed by people all over the world in many different contexts. It is a truly global phenomenon.

Music

Some claim that music is the key to the soul, others say that music is just a way to avoid silence, others still maintain that it allows them to think in ways they wouldn’t otherwise be able to do. Many people listen to music at home in order to relax, whilst others prefer to attend strobe light-clad warehouses where the music is played at tremendous volumes.

It is clear that music is a global cultural pastime for almost all the people of the world, but it is not clear precisely why this is!

Work Stuff

November 29, 2011 5:19pm

Hi guys!

I’m doing great! I got a promotion at work which is paying me a lot more money, and requiring me to work a lot less hours as well! It’s perfect!

I have been really busy these past few months, and was really struggling under the weight of the demands placed on me by my boss. He wanted me to recruit 40 people in two weeks, a task impossible without superhuman powers...or so I thought. Then, last week I posted the job opportunities on Adizar and since then all of my prayers have been answered! I have interviewed more than 70 people since then, and have filled 30 of the 40 positions available.

I asked my boss, who denied that my promotion was caused by my recent success and insisted that he’d been thinking about promoting me for a while...But I’m not so sure!

What now?

I bought a Nintendo 3DS when it came out and it's a lovely little piece of gaming kit, I really enjoy playing on it. The thing is, apart from a couple of 3D games that I have, I barely use the cool 3D features that made we want to buy the console in the first place.

I kitted myself out with a few games that I liked the look of, I got myself an r4 3ds card to save things and store my music and movies, but now I'm a bit stuck for other games to buy.

There are a fair few games on the market that are designed and built with 3DS technology, but a lot of them are a bit more childish than I'd like. I have my eye on Mario Kart 7, I play Mario Kart on Wii a lot with my family so it should be pretty good on DS and in 3D.

Apart from that Sonic Generations might be cool, I loved Sonic games when I was a kid and played on a Sega Megadrive, hopefully it's even better these days.

What I need is a proper geeky gamer friend to tell me what all the best 3DS games are!

Anyone Feeling Generous?

November 15, 2011 3:45pm

Hello lovely followers, lovely gentle blog-readers of mine. Hello. Okay so I'm trying to butter you up.

I have found something that I absolutely 100% have to own, and nobody in my life likes, loves or even just appreciates me enough to buy me it!

It's a lego star wars millennium falcon, like a model of the Millennium Falcon from Star Wars, but you build it yourself, from scratch, from Lego!

It is so awesome, I love Star Wars and Lego was literally my favourite things in the world when I was a kid, I love building stuff; this would literally make my life complete!

If anyone has a spare slot on their Christmas list or feels like sending me some love, please, go right ahead!

I will love you forever! Or repay you in hugs!

Oh no!

I was walking to the bus stop to go home from my parents' house last night, but I popped to check my travelcard balance first at the train station.

When I finally got on the bus I sat down and realised that the paper bag I was carrying was about to fall through at the bottom, and had a huge gaping hole. I did a quick check that everything was there, then I realised my sandwich and my multi tool kit had fallen out. I quickly looked out of the bus window just as we drove past the station and there was my sandwich and my tool right outside on the floor.

I got straight up and off the bus as soon as I could and ran back, and when I got to the station the sandwich was still sat on the floor, but my Leatherman Skeletool was gone, someone must've picked it up!

Gutted!
